The practice of yoga helps to balance our two autonomic nervous systems; the sympathetic and parasympathetic system.
The sympathetic nervous system prepares the organism for action when it is stimulated by an external event that prompts us to react. It puts the body on alert, the heart rate quickens, the pupils dilate, muscle tension appears, the body's reactions are very rapid.
The parasympathetic nervous system promotes relaxation and relaxation and is stimulated by calmness and appeasement. It activates the vital processes of the body to regenerate it and blocks the sympathetic system. It puts the body in a physical and mental relaxation, breathing is peaceful, it promotes the assimilation of food, creates good circulation of fluids and creates restful sleep.
These two systems confront each other and when one is over-stimulated over the other then the second weakens. Nowadays the sympathetic system is very busy which puts us in a state of permanent stress and in parallel the parasympathetic system is weakened and the balance of these two systems is lost. It is therefore vital to reactivate the parasympathetic system to regain this balance.
By practicing yoga we redirect our nervous system towards a relaxation response by activating our parasympathetic nervous system. Relaxation also induces mental rest and a feeling of calm and well-being follows.
Regenerating yoga sessions are to be practiced at least once a week but a stressed body tends to want to go more towards a dynamic practice while this one can add tensions by accelerating the breathing, by raising the temperature of the body and by working the muscles. It is sometimes compulsory to impose a gentle practice on your students.
The regenerating yoga sequence must be performed in order. It is important that the student is 100% comfortable in his posture, so take the time to install it correctly and check that everyone has the right supports. The temperature of the room should be comfortable and the mood can be set up with music without words. You can find an adequate playlist on the youteach.YOGA account on Spotify called Regenerating Yoga.
