STRETCH THE SPINE BY TWISTS AND EXTENDING BACKWARDS

This session stretches the back in three directions: to both sides and backward. Backward extensions are excellent postures for strengthening the spinal muscles and also for counteracting static postures and those of our daily lives in which we are constantly curled up on ourselves facing forward.

Twists and inversions after backbends neutralize the spine and serve as recovery poses.

Backward extensions open Anahata, the heart chakra. Anahata, the fourth chakra symbolized by the color green, is the center of all chakras, like a point of balance, it connects the Earth, the lower chakras or the physical body, to the sky, the upper chakras or the mind. It is therefore located in the center of the body at the level of the rib cage, the heart, the lungs, the diaphragm, the lymph glands, the chest and the esophagus. It symbolizes love, kindness towards ourselves and others, security, confidence, hope and the search for balance. It makes one sensitive to compassion, it is the center of forgiveness and detachment.

When this chakra is open, we feel less aggressive, less angry, and less resentful. This unblocked chakra makes us full of life and love for all living beings.
