ajna-the-third-eye-chakra

AJNA, the third eye chakra

This sequence opens AJNA, the third eye chakra. Ajna, the sixth chakra symbolized by the color indigo, represents the door to awakening. It is associated with the psychological qualities of wisdom, intuition, meditation, memory, intelligence and discernment. It is nicknamed the third eye because it is located on the forehead between the two eyebrows and is associated with the pineal gland, the nervous system and the eyes. The opening of this chakra makes it possible to control the flow of the mind by synchronizing the two hemispheres of the brain , intuition on the right and intellect on the left.

When Ajna is open, one sees things with clarity and lucidity , one has wisdom and knowledge and easy understanding.

Conversely, blocked Ajna results in a lockdown in the rational and in our habits that secure us, strong material attachments and a follower character that follows the behaviors, opinions and ideas of others.

When this chakra is in excess, we are sure to know the truth that we base on irrationality by rejecting all reality.

The Kalesvara mudra , the mudra dedicated to the time-ruling Kalesvara deity, harmoniously opens Ajna with slow, deep breaths. This mudra calms the flow of thoughts and excessive emotions, it stimulates concentration and memory.

To stimulate this chakra, the postures are practiced with a point of contact on the forehead between the two eyebrows such as the thumbs of both hands in Namaste, the ground or a yoga brick. For the advanced, the practice should be done as much as possible with the eyes closed to direct the attention inward and to concentrate better.
