CONNECTION TO THE EARTH ELEMENT, PRITHIVI

Sequence dedicated to basic postures with an emphasis on their foundations to better connect to the Earth element, Prithivi.

In the yoga of asanas, we often do and redo the same postures but we approach them in different ways depending on the action we want to put in place during the class. It is important to ritualize the postures so as not to do the asanas on autopilot but in full awareness.

The transition to the summer season makes the energy more present and the practices are dynamic and solar, in Ayurveda, summer is the season of Pitta, the meeting of fire and water. During this season, the mind has a greater tendency to escape, the sequence offers postures that reduce Pitta, to better center us, to connect us to the energy of the Earth and not only with that of the sun, to bring calm, concentration and compensate for the heat.

The visionaries of yoga observing nature have discovered that all matter in the universe is made up of 5 fundamental elements, from the smallest speck of dust to the complex physiology of the individual. These 5 elements are Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Space (sometimes called Ether).

The element Earth is the densest of these elements, it represents the solidity and stability of matter and the anchor.

This element is hard, heavy, slow. In our body this solid architecture is found in our bones, teeth, hair, skin,… The energy of the Earth is directed downwards with all its weight. In the outside world, it is the mountains, the rocks, the grains of sand, the buildings. In our body, the element Earth dominates at the level of the legs which represent our roots.

The postures in this sequence work the legs to better anchor themselves in the ground and be able to rise from strong roots. It tones the lower body, strengthens the joints and leads to a calmer and more stable temperament.
