SALARY AND REPUTATION OF A YOGA TEACHER

AVERAGE SALARY FOR THE YEAR 2020

Dear teachers, please note that the studies below are French studies.

Doing a job that is close to our hearts is everyone's dream, being a yoga teacher requires a lot of financial management. Here are the figures for 2021 that can serve as a basis for you to launch yourself further or to review your rates upwards.

In France, the average monthly salary is 1700€ net per month once the activity is launched on a full-time basis and with an auto-entrepreneur status, not as an employee in an association (sources: Joted). This amounts to an average income of 24€ net per hour, which is 27% less than the average salary in France. At the beginning of the career, between the first and the third year of teaching, the salary is 1350€ net per month and 4000€ net per month at the end of the career with more than 20 years of teaching. In comparison with other similar professions, being a yoga teacher is rather well placed because it is ahead of fitness teachers, sports coaches and tennis instructors but behind physical trainers who start with a salary of 1500€ net at the beginning of their career.

This average income of 24€/h depends on the geolocation, the charges and your notoriety. Note that the notoriety plays a big role on your salary because the number of students that make up your community means that your hourly rate can increase very quickly.

THE IDEAL STATUS FOR TEACHING

Most teachers have the status of auto-entrepreneurs in France. This status is ideal especially for the beginning of one's career because it allows one to have freedom on one's schedule and to combine the teaching profession with another profession in parallel, the time to have enough classes to be able to live only from yoga. The advantage is also that you don't need any capital at the beginning to create your micro-business and that the taxes are paid in proportion to the earned income, so no bad surprises. On the other hand, you can't deduct your travel expenses, rental, purchase of equipment, ... which can sometimes be quite substantial if you rent a room far from home for example.

TO DEVELOP ITS ACTIVITY AND ITS NOTORIETY

Like many people who are bored in their professional lives, becoming a yoga teacher is a dream. This discipline has completely developed, making a place in the market becomes more and more difficult. The covid has revealed to us that you can in addition to face-to-face classes, give video classes and thus develop your notoriety through social networks and other services on the net.

Here are a few ways to develop your notoriety, and therefore your business, other than running from one course to the next. Of course, diplomas bring quality to your teaching but the profession is not recognized, you have to learn to impose yourself among the thousands of teachers who improvise themselves as yoga teachers.

To increase your notoriety you need to increase your visibility, for this you can use the influence of social networks by putting forward your mentor teachers who have trained you or where you often practice so that they share the posts on which you have identified them. This approach also applies to the clubs where you practice and/or teach, you gain notoriety among all the students of the clubs and the teachers who follow them. Being in collaboration with brands as an ambassador is also a good way to get visibility, in exchange of goodwill you give classes, often free, against visibility in the community of the brand and often an outfit "offered".

Each teacher has his or her own identity and this is his or her strength, to do this you need to show students how you teach your yoga and since online classes have become very popular, nothing is better than making videos on Youtube! Youtube with an annual growth rate of 4.9% is a great opportunity to develop your notoriety and some have already understood this. By gaining an audience with your videos, brands will come looking for you to participate in their events and this can also become a source of income. Afterwards you can create your own brand or lend your name in collaboration with already known brands and why not develop your online courses.
